National Health Insurance: Health Care Created Equal

Throughout our nation's history, the idea of universal health coverage has been met with heavy resistance. Medical associations fearing loss of their monopoly on the health care system have derailed every attempt at legislation that would provide coverage to all citizens. With every failed legislation our health care system continues to unravel and fails to meet the needs of all citizens. With over 41 million uninsured Americans it is time that we stand up for the right of all Americans to have affordable and efficient health care. The US pays more per capita for health care than any other developed nation while still failing to provide care for all it's citizens like the other developed countries. In congress there is a bill, HR 676, in committee that would establish a national health program providing health coverage to every citizen. I urge you to call and write you representatives and encourage them to support this bill that would insure no American goes without the health care they need. Our founders believed that all men were created equal and our health care system should reflect that belief.

No way, Jarod. Everything the government touches, it ruins. Why in the world would I want to entrust to them my physical well-being?! I'm miles/worlds away from being convinced of the benefits of universal healthcare. Yes, there is a problem. As a poorly-insured pastor with a baby on the way, I certainly know the financial ills. But I refuse to ask you or any other taxpayer to pay for my wife & baby's medical care. I may need assistance from my family & church, but that's their job. It's not the government's. I respectfully disagree with you. (But still love ya!)

I used to feel the same way about universal health care. I hated the thought of the government run health care, but the more I thought about it the more I saw that there was no better plan that would provide equal and efficient care for everyone. The poor are still paying for their health care it is just made affordable for them by grouping everyone under the same insurance plan. The problem with any private plan is that there highest concern is profit not the well being of the consumer. With a single payer system you streamline the administration aspect of health care and leave more money available for actual care thus driving down health care costs. Family and church are great for those who have them but there are millions who have neither. We have an obligation as a country to care for the sick among us. In any insurance plan whether private or government run at any point in time the healthy are paying for the sick. The universal health care plan just makes it more affordable for everyone. I don't support every universal health care plan that has been proposed but this current one is the best that I have seen. Here is a website that will give you more info. http://www.pnhp.org
